How Did We Get Here? Part 2, “Political Correctness”
by Phil Branch

First of all I want to Thank my returning bloggers and Welcome those new to Eye on the Sky.

How “did” we get here? What was once a vast thriving multicultural country is slowly being narrowed and focused into what a few people 80-90 years ago had planned. We are being told that the idea of “one size fit’s all” is how it should be. Equality is one of the key words thrown around on many platforms today. All of the media, radio, television or newsprint, sing the same song “Share the Wealth!” And oh, they are so good at it. You can’t help but feel for those in the many broadcast or published stories where the plight of the “under-privileged” seems so hopeless. You just want to get out your checkbook and start writing. The media puts these stories in our minds and hearts surely for many reasons and regrettably I doubt they are advertising these somber views with only the hope of solution. Rather, I am inclined to believe there are those within our government and or those of power outside, not directly connected to our government that is deciding what stories the general public should see and hear. Before I go further please understand I do care about the truly under privileged and needy citizens of America. This segment is more about those the government is trying to make us believe are under privileged. The people that according to the government need further assistance that will require government expansion and higher tax burdens placed on the “privileged”. Again, I am all for helping out those that can not help themselves, however I am not sure the government is the organization that should be seen as the answer to the needy or down trodden people of America.

Let me share a brief story with you that may explain my view. I know of a man I’ll call “James” that surely came from under privileged beginnings. Born during the late 40’s and adopted from his mother who was then sheltered in a “Christian” home. Now, he had a new family of two loving people who cared enough to help. This new family no doubt had wonderful plans for the future only to be dashed by the father’s untimely death shortly after James’ first birthday. James’ mother being a devoted wife and home-maker had been totally dependant on her husband a Master Sergeant in the Army-Air corps. You see, James' mother born in 1909, had only a 3rd grade education. She had no skills to pursue a career, instead she took in ironing and worked part-time as a waitress in a local café, better known the as a “beer-joint” in those days. She did the best she could in raising James, who took fried egg sandwiches to school for lunch most of his elementary years. During those same years one of the big events was the annual trip to buy clothes for the following school year. They would buy a few shirts and blue jeans, oh and extra iron-on patches which were immediately applied to the knees of the pants in hopes they would last till next year. Upon moving to Jr. High, peer pressure had taken hold and there was much teasing about his would be wardrobe, his disfigured smile filled with cavities. You see the monthly support from the now Air Force was simply not enough to sustain this Mom and Son. So, James took it upon himself to earn enough money to buy better clothes and relieve some of his mom’s burden.. He became a “shoe-shine boy!” Where were his customers? I am sure know. He found them where his Mom worked and other “cafes“ in the proximity. His venturing out and into this environment did allow for extra income and nicer clothes and such, however his exposure to this new element of “society” brought new problems. Over the next 5 years he became independent, he would find there are other ways of making money. Making money without having to be on his knees while at other people’s feet shining their shoes. You see, one of the places he shined shoes was a “pool hall”! You guessed it, he learned how to play and it wasn’t long before he was playing against his privileged peers from school and beating them out of their allowances. Speeding this story along James’ independence grew to arrogance and caused separation from his Mother; he quit school before completing the 10th grade, and ran away from home at 15. Moving ahead, the next six years were filled with problems from his dark lifestyle. Yes, there were high times when you might say he was “flush”. His pool skills grew and he began to take advantage of the local blue collar workers each Friday night at the pool hall. Using his skill with a cue stick he easily took large portions of their pay checks that were freshly cashed. Never having a decent day-job, there was a short stint as a helper on a construction crew and other odd jobs; James was even an Ice Cream man one summer. Then finally his life style caught up with him. He was involved in a gang fight and ultimately was hospitalized for 49 days. During his hospital stay, his first cousin “Uncle Ed” came to visit James in the hospital. Uncle Ed a devoutly Christian man took James under his wing one summer and changed James' life forever. Now Drawing this story to a close, James finally landed a part-time job in retail. Perhaps being so thankful of being away from his seedy life style and likely his teenaged skill as a hustler he was surely a charming sales person. Well over the next 35 years in retail with the same corporation he was more than successful. His last five years after promotion to field management grew his personal annual income to six digits and finally retirement. I am sure you noticed James never asked the government for aything.

If you have read this far I want to thank you for your patience. Please understand this verbose “short story” was to illustrate there are needy people, there are under-privileged and many of these people can make it on there own. I firmly believe there is no need for exhaustive Government intervention. In fact I believe that Government intervention under the guise of “Political Correctness” aka Social Marxism is a larger part of our problems here in the United States. Our government has been and continues to grow a horrible culture within the lower income groups of America. Over the decades since the births of welfare and other social reform, generations of people have been brought up in this socialized society. They know little to nothing else. In their eyes, life as they know it, is simply the way it always has been. We are angered by those with their hands out. We are frustrated when in the check out line at the grocery store when the person in front of us buys twice as many groceries as we do and pays for them with food stamps (Government IOU’s). Then we see those same people drive away in new Cadillac’s, Towncars and SUV’s. and away they go to Government provided public housing. All this while many of us get into our “used” mini-vans and away to a home that we hope will not end up in foreclosure. As long as the Government is allowed to support and or grow the hundreds of social welfare systems, There Will Always Be “Slaves” to the Government.

We must remember, we as a group all too often set on our hands and tolerate the edicts that the government imposes upon us, and stand humbly by with the hope that things will get better. We simply must stop this if we really want to change things. We need to take a stand and voice our opinions to the lawmakers before the laws are created and afterwards to affect change. Remain Silent and Silenced you will be. Vote like you have never voted before.
